We had our first big test, the Math test. We will be marking it and going over them on Monday to help improve learning and make sure they get the concepts.
We will begin Jump Math on Tuesday. The whole pod will be doing Math together in an effort to help all the students more efficiently. Division 1 had a great class the other day that gave the kids a taste of what peer support and teaching is like and how helpful it can be. It was amazing to see students helping and learning from each other. The students reported that they felt it was very beneficial. That sort of cooperation is encouraging.
The teachers will be preparing mini lessons for the students to attend each day to learn new concepts. They will have us to help them out as we circulate around the pod supporting students and monitoring their progress. We will have 'check up' quizzes to see how students are progressing throughout the unit to make sure no one falls behind.
We finally got our PE schedule; Thursday mornings at the Boys and Girls Club, and Friday after lunch. It is great to see the kids running around and having fun. What a great group I have this year!
Please try to help out by making sure your child has gym shorts, a t shirt and running shoes. It is much better for participation. If we go outside, they will be given the option to wear long pants and/or a sweater/jacket.
I have to say, overall I have been impressed with how many students have turned in all their homework. With the exception of our All About Me art project on Friday, almost all assignments were turned in on time.
For unfinished homework I will send home a notice informing you that your child did not complete an assignment. Please sign the form and return it to school the next day. If it is not returned with a signature, I will give you a call to touch base.
You can keep up with what's going on and what is due on the HOMEWORK or CALENDAR pages here on our site.
We have some new and exciting assignments.
The students are learning how to write and format a proper report. They have been shown what elements of the text to use, and they have been shown how to format the report. I suggest they use a template. Many are available online.
This is the first of five smaller projects leading up to our big one in the new year. Students are to learn about governmental systems from Ancient Civilizations. The assignment sheet is on the HOMEWORK page.
While some students are in Band, the remainder of the class is creating a musical piece with Garage Band on the iPads at school. It is great. Hopefully we can post a few of their masterpieces online here. Students are reminded to bring headphones to work on their project.
Overall, I am very excited about this year. This is a great bunch of kids, and I am having a lot of fun. I will try to get some pictures to post up in the future. Please keep checking in and drop me a line if you need to.
Thanks again for coming by for the conferences. Have a great weekend.
