I am excited about our year as we move forward and settle in, especially after our late start. Things are going well in the classroom, and the kids are getting into the swing of things. Our academic programming is taking shape as we delve into our Social Studies, Language Arts, Math and Science (beginning next week). The students have already completed their first Social Studies project that culminated with a presentation today. I am very excited about what they have done. I encourage them to be creative and to think outside the box. It is my hope that your child will engage in many different ways to express themselves this year. We will be using technology to create projects and book reports. We will be using iPads, and I definitely encourage the use of computers and many online tools such as Outlook, Gmail, Weebly Website Builder, and others.
We have a class website at douglas39.weebly.com. We will do our best to keep it updated and have all current homework assignments there for you to see. Check out the calendar and our homework page. There is also a CONTACT page if you want to send me an email. I try to do a BLOG update each week; please check it out.
In regards to our conferences next week, I just wanted to check on a few things. The students brought home their goals to you yesterday (Thursday). The students were instructed to go over the goals with you and get your input. The goals were signed and returned. The hope is that when you come in next week, we will simply review and confirm the goals. Unfortunately we only have 10 minute slots next week, so we will have to be efficient with our time. However, I am very excited to meet with each of you. If you would like to set a time for another, more in depth meeting, I am available much of the time; I will be happy to meet with you at a convenient time.
I hope your child has shared what our class is like and how things are going. I am feeling quite positive as we all get to know each other. We have a class store using our DOUGLAS DOLLARS as currency. We will be engaging in a lot of creative activities and, hopefully, some great field trips.
Please feel free to get a hold of me whenever you like.
That's all for now...thanks much,
I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as I can next week. If for some reason you can't make it, just let me know and we can reschedule.
I hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving Weekend; we all have a lot for which we should be thankful.
